Thunder News Flash – June 8, 2019

June 07, 2019
  • What do you want of me, Lord?

Every day at 12:00pm a Grade 5 student leads the school in a special prayer and then Grace Before Meals.  Even though June can often be a challenging month in schools, June’s prayer reminds us that learning and prayer are connected.

God of Light and Truth – Thank You for giving me a mind that can know and a heart that can love.  Help me to keep learning every day of my life, for all knowledge leads to You.  Let me be aware of Your presence in all things and at all times.  Encourage me when work is difficult and when I am tempted to give up; encourage me when my brain seems slow and the way forward is difficult.  Grant me the grace to put my mind to use exploring the world You have created, confident that in You there is a wisdom that is real.  Amen.

  • Dress Down Day - June 18th

On June 12th one of our Grade 5 students had the opportunity to be the Principal for a Day.  As his final act during his time, Mr. B. decided that Tuesday, June 18th would be a dress down day, and the theme is “Superheroes”.

  • Work Bee - June 8th

The final Work Bee to qualify for Parent Participation hours for the 2018-2019 school year will take place today, June 8th, from 9:00am to 2:00pm.  If you still require Parent Participation hours, please make every effort to attend this Work Bee.  We are hoping that the weather will allow for lots of outside work to be done so, if you are able to, please bring gardening gloves, trimmers, and cordless garden tools.

  • Neat Uniforms - Fitting Day

Neat Uniforms will be at the school on Tuesday, June 11th from 2:00-7:00pm for our annual Fitting Day.  This is a wonderful opportunity to have your child try on any uniform pieces that they may need for next school year.  However, please take into consideration that there will still be almost 3 months of growing before school reopens in September.  Please also note that the busiest time is from 2:00-4:00pm, so you may want to pick your children up after school, go home for an early dinner, and come back to the school in the evening as the crowd will have thinned out by then.

  • Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Thank you very much to all of the parents who helped with the Staff Appreciation Lunch, whether it was by bringing food or helping with the set up and clean up.  It was a wonderful meal that was enjoyed by all!

  • Outreach Assembly

The last term of this school year we have been focussed on the virtue of love.  There were incredible acts of love throughout the year as the classes were each connected with a particular group that they supported through prayer and outreach.  On Wednesday, June 12th will be have a special assembly sharing all of the ways that the classes supported these different groups.  Please come and join us for our assembly, led by our Principal for a Day, at 8:45am in the school gym.

  • Record Your Parent Participation/Fundraiser Hours

This is a reminder to record your Parent Participation and/or Fundraiser hours on the School’s Parent Participation Portal, which can be found at the end of this newsletter, before June 15th.  If you have not completed all 20 required Parent Participation hours and/or your Fundraiser commitment, your last Parent Participation and/or Fundraiser cheque ($150 each) will be cashed at the end of June.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your hours, recording your hours or completing your hours, please let Erika know ASAP by clicking here.

  • Walkathon

We have almost finished tallying all the donations and we hope to be announcing our grand total this coming week, as well as handing out prizes.  An email with more information on how to enter the draw for the “7 nights accommodation at one of Vida Ambassador’s Mexico Resorts” will be sent to every family who gathered donations.
