  • What do you want of me, Lord?

At this week’s assembly we learned about being thankful for all that we have which includes things like a house to live in, a bed to sleep in, food to eat and clothes to wear.  The students also pointed out that they were thankful for their immediate families, relatives, their friends, a nice school and they also shared some of their favourite foods that they enjoyed during the Thanksgiving weekend.  We know that everything that we have is a gift from God, and God would want us to be thankful for all that we have.  We then learned a little bit about the migrant farm workers and some of the struggles that they encounter such as low wages, not enough to eat, long work days and poor living conditions.  Speaking of the migrant farm workers…

  • Mountain of Miracles for the Migrant Farm Workers

An amazing amount of food was collected last week which will be donated to St. Ann’s Parish to share with the migrant farm workers in the Abbotsford area.  Thank you so much to everyone who brought in items to add to the mountain – your generosity will go such a long way and make a difference for these hardworking people.  All the grades did such an amazing job that the whole school earned themselves an extra 15 minutes of recess on Monday, October 15th.  A big congratulations to the Grade 3 class who brought in the most – they have earned themselves a special movie afternoon!

  • Work Bee

The next Work Bee is taking place today, Saturday, October 13th from 9:00am – 2:00pm.  If you are scheduled to attend this Work Bee, or coming to make up for a Work Bee that you missed, please bring work gloves or gardening gloves with you.  If you could also bring gardening tools such as hand clippers, or even a gas powered hedge trimmer, it would be most appreciated.

  • Parent Prayer Group

Longing for peace and quiet after the crazy morning rush?  Come and rest in God’s presence at the Parent Prayer Group this Thursday, October 18th at 8:45am in the Children’s room in St. James Church (and every Thursday thereafter).  We will pray the rosary for the intentions of our schools, our families, our teachers and school staff, and any other prayer requests in the Intentions Book in the school lobby.  It usually lasts about 20 minutes – small children and babies are welcome.

  • Chess Club

We are happy to announce that the Chess Club will be starting on Friday, October 26th, sponsored by Mr. Yang.  This club will be open to students in Grades 4 – 7 who have some knowledge of how to play chess.  Students should bring their lunch to the “French Room” after prayer at approximately 12:05pm and they will play while they eat until 12:40pm.  The club will continue each Friday that school is in session until May when there will be a final tournament.  In June the Chess Club will be open to all students who would like to learn how to play chess.

  • Organics Collection in the Classrooms

Our organics program is now in full swing, and is being monitored daily by senior students who make up our “Green Team”.  Each day they check the organics bins to remove any items that should not be there, and starting Monday, October 15th and each school day after that classes with correct items in their bin will receive a green card, but classes who have incorrect items in their bins will receive a yellow card telling them what the incorrect items were.  When a class collects 30 green cards they will be rewarded with 30 minutes of an activity of their choice with Mrs. Sask – it could be 30 minutes outside, 30 minutes of free time in the gym, 30 minutes playing board games, etc.
