Thunder News Flash – November 12, 2017

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support and prayers, and to give you an update on our journey since leaving the school.  My husband, Martin, began chemotherapy at the end of June and while we know it was necessary, it certainly was a challenge.  Unfortunately the first week of August brought some very serious complications, and Martin ended up in the hospital on August 3rd severely dehydrated, with a blood sugar level of 39.9, and with a perforated bowel that required emergency surgery.  Thanks to a very skilled surgeon and the many prayers from our Catholic extended family, after 6 days in the Intensive Care Unit and another 8 in the general surgery ward, Martin was able to be released on August 17th to continue his recovery at home.  His recovery has gone very well since that time, and several scans have shown that even though he only went through 3 rounds of chemotherapy, the tumours have already begun to shrink, and the doctors and surgeons are very encouraged by this.  Of course his current good health means that he is now strong enough to begin chemotherapy again, and so he had his first round this week.  We are very hopeful that this time the complications will be minimal and that he will soon be ready to undergo surgery to remove the tumours and be cancer free.  We ask that you keep our family in your prayers as we continue on this journey, and please know that all of you are never far from our thoughts and prayers as well.
